Rescue patients from blood shortage because of the Corona virus
Currently, the acute respiratory infection caused by coronavirus nCoV-2019 is complicated, making the shortage of blood for daily treatment worse at hospitals across the country.
🆘 Blood shortage for treatment also occurs in Ho Chi Minh City, Hue, Da Nang, Can Tho, etc. According to the leader of Ho Chi Minh City Blood Transfusion and Hematology Hospital (the unit that ensures blood supply for most patients in Ho Chi Minh City), the hospital's blood reserve on the morning of February 1 was only about 4,000 units. Whilst, the blood demand of hospitals in the whole city after the Tet holiday increased sharply compared to the last year period. On average, they need 800-1,000 units of blood every day.
🆘 Dr. Pham Thi Ngoc Anh, Head of the Department of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, Da Nang Hospital, said that this unit was in shortage of blood partly due to the influence of acute respiratory infections caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. According to Dr. Anh, before the pandemic, the hospital needs about 100 blood units/day, now it's only 50-70 blood units/day. The blood reserve at the hospital is lower than the average (690 out of 1,000 units).
🆘 Mrs. Vi Quynh Hoa, Director of the Blood Transfusion Center, Viet Duc Hospital, said that currently, the blood volume in the hospital has been exhausted, of which only 10 units of O blood remain, 2 units of A blood.
Every day, Viet Duc Hospital operates about 250 cases. Among them, 25-30 ones are in an emergency. Facing the shortage of blood at the top surgical hospital in the country, the hospital called on people to donate blood to save patients' lives.
